About C-Drama Compass

C-Drama Compass is an English-language guide to Chinese dramas: where to watch legally, whether a show is worth finishing, and spoiler-safe endings.
Last updated

C-Drama Compass is an English-language guide to Chinese dramas for viewers in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia. We built it to answer the three questions we kept asking ourselves before starting a 40-episode series: where can I watch this legally, is it worth finishing, and how does it end?

C-Drama Compass lives at cdramacompass.com. It is an independent editorial site, not a streaming service, and it is not affiliated with Netflix, Viki, iQIYI, WeTV, Youku, Mango TV, any studio, or other C-drama sites with similar names.

What we do

Every drama page tries to answer those questions quickly, with the details that matter for a decision.

  • Where to watch. We list only official services: Netflix, Viki, iQIYI, WeTV, Youku, MGTV, Prime Video, and official YouTube channels. We show the services available in your country, how you pay (free with ads, subscription, or VIP), and which subtitle languages are offered. Each listing carries the date we last checked it.
  • Is it worth it. Once an editor has watched a drama, it gets one of four verdicts, from Must Finish to Safe to Drop, plus the episodes you can skim if the middle drags. Until then, the page says plainly that we haven't watched it and names the sources its overview is based on.
  • How it ends. We label every completed drama's ending type and explain the ending in layers, so you can see as much or as little as you want. Spoilers are hidden by default.

We also explain the cultural context that subtitles often skip, from palace ranks to cultivation stages, in our glossary and guides.

What we don't do

We never link to unofficial streaming sites or unauthorized uploads, and we never suggest ways around regional licensing. If a drama isn't officially available in your country, we say so plainly and tell you where it is available.

We don't publish scores of our own or blend outside ratings into a single number. When we show Douban and MyDramaList ratings, we show them side by side with the date we recorded them, and we explain big gaps between the two.

We don't write about actors' private lives.

Who we are

C-Drama Compass is run by a small independent team of C-drama viewers who read Chinese. We aren't part of a streaming platform, studio, or media company. Our editors work from official platform listings and Chinese-language sources, and a verdict only ever comes from someone who has watched the drama. You can read how we work in our editorial policy and how we assign verdicts and ending labels in How We Rate.

How the site is funded

C-Drama Compass is free to read. We plan to fund it with display advertising, which never appears inside spoiler sections, the Where to Watch panel, or viewer votes. Advertisers have no say in what we cover or how we rate it. If we ever use affiliate links, we will label them clearly on the page where they appear.
