Who's who
- Liu Zhengliang (Xiao Zhan): a brilliant, cold, career-minded neurosurgeon with a fear of snow. He takes a temporary contract job at Xiaoximen only to save his brother, and plans to leave as soon as he can.
- Long Dongdong (Ni Dahong): the clinic's longtime director, rude on the surface and kind underneath. He knows the town and its people and has a homemade fix for most shortages.
- Ai Chen (Jiang Yan): runs her family's funeral supplies shop and lends a hand at the clinic. Outspoken and soft-hearted, and good at calming patients' families.
- Liu Zhengguang (Shi Pengyuan): the younger brother who stayed home. He dreams of music, argues with his brother constantly and protects him anyway.
- Che Mingming (Jian Renzi): Xiaoximen's surgeon, quiet and steady, from a rural family that keeps pushing her to move to a big city.
