Who's who
- Sang Zhi (Zhao Lusi): a cheerful, stubborn girl from Nanwu who hides her crush for years. She chooses her university to be near Duan Jiaxu and grows from his friend's little sister into his equal.
- Duan Jiaxu (Chen Zheyuan): Sang Yan's roommate, charming and teasing on the surface, carrying debts and a sick father underneath. He works as a game designer. Once he sees Sang Zhi as an adult, he pursues her with real intent.
- Sang Yan (Ma Boqian): Sang Zhi's older brother, about five years older, sharp-tongued and secretly protective. He later co-owns a bar. His own love story is the subject of The First Frost.
- Li Ping and Sang Rong (Zeng Li and Qiu Xinzhi): Sang Zhi's parents, loving and protective, and the last obstacle to the romance.
- Ning Wei, Yu Xin and Wang Ruolan (Wei Xiao, Qi Tianqing and Wang Yilan): Sang Zhi's university roommates, who give the second half its dorm comedy.
- Jiang Ying (Xu Shixin): a woman linked to Duan Jiaxu's father's past, who believes Duan owes her and creates trouble for the couple.
Identity Reveals
Ending spoilerShow identity reveals
There are no hidden identities. The closest thing is a misunderstanding: in her teens Sang Zhi sees Duan Jiaxu with a woman (Jiang Siyun, a boss of his) and believes he has a girlfriend, which shapes years of her life. The other slow reveal is Duan Jiaxu's family history, his father's illness and debts, which the drama uncovers in pieces rather than all at once.
