Who's who
- Xu Chi (Zhao Jinmai): calm and capable on the outside, proud and guarded underneath. She came from a small city with no connections and keeps people at a distance, though she often helps them quietly. Her motto is the title: she will not be replaceable.
- Ye Xinzhi (Wei Daxun): a senior consultant who left his old firm after taking the blame for his mentor and came back to the industry with a plan. He is blunt, divorced, and more damaged than he lets on. He moves from Xu Chi's mentor to her ally to her partner.
- Lin Long (Bai Bing): Xu Chi's first supervisor, a senior partner at Maisi who quietly loved Ye for six years. Her pregnancy makes her fear for her job, and her marriage is coming apart.
- Shen Jin (Yang Le): a client CEO who grew up with divorced parents and a serious illness. He falls for Lin Long and stays with her through the end of her marriage.
- Bu Tianna (Hu Yixuan): a sharp strategist from a very rich family, whose father passes her over for her younger brother.
- Zhao Heng (Zhou Qi): Xu Chi's outgoing fellow new hire, who studied at a top Shanghai university on scholarships. He gives up any claim to the Bu family's shares to prove he loves Bu Tianna for herself.
- Yang Rui (Wang Qiang): a pragmatic team leader who dates Xu Chi while watching her for his boss, sides against her on a key project, and ends their relationship first.
