Minor spoilerReveal how Duan Xiuming and Mingyu are connected
According to Baidu Baike, Duan Xiuming came to Xizi City partly on his mother's errand, to find the daughter of her old friend, Auntie Chen, a former Yue opera singer who had died. In episode 11 he works out that the painter he has fallen for is that daughter and that she was born Lu Mingye (鹿鸣野). He follows her to London, where she is studying, and finds signs of years of abuse on her body.
