Quite the Girl

We haven't watched this one. This section is based on the episode synopses and character introductions on Baidu Baike and the platform listings on WeTV and Viki, and we'll replace it with a verdict once we have one.

The format is the first thing to know. Episodes run about 15 minutes, so the whole drama is roughly seven or eight hours, closer to a long film than a standard Chinese series. It sits between the vertical short dramas that made the story famous and a full-length series, and it moves at that speed. The synopses pack a trap, a reversal or a confession into almost every episode, and the leads are sleeping together by episode 3.

The appeal is the heroine. Lu Mingyu is not a victim waiting to be rescued. She sabotages her cousin's gift with glow-in-the-dark paint in the first episode, plays her relatives off against each other, and is open about using Duan Xiuming. He is the kind of male lead this genre is built around: rich, protective and happy to be her weapon. The second half adds a fake-couple assignment, a secret marriage contract, a forged family heirloom, a disputed will and an old crime in the Lu family, and it runs through the workplace as well, once she joins his company.

Reception in China was strong for a drama this size. Tencent Video's user score stood at 9.2 from about 41,000 ratings, and its heat index passed 20,000 the day after the premiere. Content notes: the synopses describe years of physical abuse, a suicide attempt, poisoning, an attempt to drug the heroine and frame her at a hotel, and on-screen violence. The romance is more physical than in most Chinese dramas.

Lu Mingyu lost her parents at 12 and has spent the ten years since in her uncle's house in Xizi City, where the family treats her as a servant and a bargaining chip. To everyone outside, she is the Lu family's quiet, obedient second daughter, the "good girl" of the title. In secret, she has won a place at the Royal College of Art in London and is waiting for a chance to leave with her grandmother. At her cousin's birthday banquet, Duan Xiuming, the heir to a powerful family from Xiangjiang, notices the girl standing by the light switch just before the lights go out, and sees straight through her act. She decides to use him as her weapon, and he lets her. Quite the Girl (好一个乖乖女, Hao Yi Ge Guai Guai Nü) is a 29-episode Tencent Video drama from 2026 starring Xu Mengjie and Ren Shihao, with episodes of about 15 minutes, adapted from a web novel by Wo Sha Fei Ku Xin (我煞费苦心). It finished airing in China on October 30, 2026, and in the US it streams on WeTV and Viki.

Quite the Girl premiered on Tencent Video on October 12, 2026. VIP members got six episodes at 12:00 Beijing time on the first day, then two a day through episode 16 on October 17, then one a day from October 18 until the finale on October 30. Baike describes a slower schedule for non-members, and we haven't confirmed when the last episode opened to them. Tencent released the first trailer and poster on October 10 and a first-week report on October 16.

It was produced by Tencent and Lexiang Pictures (乐享影业) and filmed from late February to March 20, 2026. Baike's infobox still lists 24 episodes of 20 minutes, a figure from before release. The aired version has 29 episodes on Tencent's international service and on Viki. The soundtrack includes the theme song "You Are All My Beautiful Things" (你是我所有美好), sung by Wang Yuzhou Leto, and the ending song "Do You Think I'm A Good Girl," sung by Alanis.

Internationally, WeTV and Viki had all 29 episodes from the US on November 1, 2026, each with the first four episodes free. There is no announced second season, and the drama tells a complete story.
