What to Expect

We haven't watched this one. This section is based on the iQIYI and iQ.com listings, Chinese and English recaps, and Chinese coverage, and we'll replace it with a verdict once we have one.

It is a love-hate romance in a heavenly setting. Chinese coverage describes two beings born from the same primordial force who keep marrying and splitting apart through misunderstandings, and reports describe a lot of reversals, flashbacks and nested timelines. Li Qingyue's story starts small, in a sect with little power, and the first stretch is about whether she is really who she says she is. China Daily describes the world as a floating realm above the clouds, with design drawn from the Shan Hai Jing (山海经), the Classic of Mountains and Seas, and from Lingnan architecture.

Reception was mixed. iQIYI named it in its 2025 Hall of Honor, but viewer opinion reportedly cooled as it went on. Douban users gave it a 6.0, and Chasing Dramas rated it 6.6 out of 10, saying the story takes a long time to find its footing. Chinese commentary says the plot turns are frequent and the supporting cast ends up revolving around the leads. A content note: the drama includes violence and scenes of grief and loss.

The Story

Li Qingyue is a low-ranking disciple of the Jingyun Sect with little spiritual power. Hurt while gathering herbs, she is found by Bai Jiusi, a heavenly lord with white hair who notices how closely she resembles his former wife, the goddess Hua Ruyue. He takes her to the heavens to find out why. She ends up married to him, and he keeps testing whether she is who she claims to be. Feud (临江仙, Lin Jiang Xian) is a 32-episode iQIYI xianxia drama from 2025 starring Bai Lu in two roles and Zeng Shunxi opposite her. Zhi Lei (智磊) and Guo Hao (国浩) directed it, and Yu Zheng (于正) produced it. The producers describe an original story, with no novel behind it. It aired in China in June 2025 and streams internationally on iQ.com and Viki.

Release Notes

Feud premiered on iQIYI on June 6, 2025. Chinese reports say VIP members got six episodes at noon on day one, with two a day at 18:00 after that, while free viewers got one a day. Wikipedia lists June 22, 2025 as the last date and 32 episodes of about 45 minutes. A World Journal snippet we saw but couldn't open mentions a finale on the 24th, and one tracker says the 21st, so we're hedging on the exact date. Pre-release articles said 40 episodes, and Sportskeeda said 34, but iQ.com, iQIYI and Wikipedia all say 32.

The drama was produced by iQIYI with Huanyu Film (欢娱影视) and Qi'ai Studio (奇爱工作室). Ren Yanan (任亚南) is credited as lead writer and Zhao Na (赵娜) as writer of the first draft. Filming began on April 8, 2024 at Hengdian World Studios and wrapped in August 2024, per Wikipedia and Chinese reports. A wrap report called it an original story, and we haven't found any novel or other source. At the 2025 iQIYI Scream Night in Macau, it was named in the Hall of Honor segment, according to Xinhua.

Internationally, iQ.com lists all 32 episodes with English subtitles. Wikipedia names Rakuten Viki and Line TV in selected regions, and China Daily says it was released on Netflix and Viki, including in North America and South Korea. Taiwanese coverage lists it on Netflix in Taiwan. In the US, we found it on Viki and iQ.com on October 25, 2026. There is no announced second season.

In Brief

Ending spoilerShow the ending in brief

Feud has a happy ending, as Chinese and English recaps describe it. The leads end up together after a final-stretch sacrifice, a trip back in time and a kiss. The recaps disagree on several mechanics, and viewers split on whether the finale was satisfying or rushed.

Full Ending Explained

Full spoilersShow the full ending

This account comes from Chinese finale recaps (NetEase, Sohu), a Taiwanese ending piece (Beauty321) and an English recap (Tonbori Day), not from watching. They describe the same broad shape but differ on the details, and we say so where they do.

The villain. The recaps name Xiao Jingshan (Hong Yao) as the one behind the final trouble. They say he lost his family in a sky-fire during a hunt for a thunder bird (鸓鸟) 600 years earlier, blames the gods, and wants to destroy the Wuliang Tablet (无量碑), which Tonbori Day calls the Infinite Tablet. He is said to turn to demonic arts and set a trap so that Hua Ruyue will kill Bai Jiusi.

Bai Jiusi's sacrifice. The recaps agree Bai Jiusi gives up his life so Hua Ruyue can get free, but they tell it differently. One NetEase recap says he wakes inside the trap because of a protective life pearl she once gave him and then self-destructs. Tonbori Day says the two are trapped in a formation and he vanishes after a kiss, telling her they'll meet again. A Taiwanese piece says he sacrifices himself to beat Xiao Jingshan.

The time reversal. Two NetEase recaps say Xiao Jingshan, at the cost of his own life, leaves Hua Ruyue a device that reverses time. She goes back, and the recaps say she changes the fates of several supporting characters and meets her earlier self. Hua Ruyue learns the reason for Bai Jiusi's harsh words in the past and that he bore heavenly punishment for her. One recap describes a parallel timeline in which a child she lost is born and lives. These pieces conflict on the details, so treat them as unconfirmed.

The reunion. The recaps say the Time God (曦娥, Xi'e) uses Li Qingyue's power to wake Bai Jiusi. A NetEase recap and the Taiwanese piece say Hua Ruyue wakes him with a kiss, and one places this at the far northern spot where they first met. Another NetEase recap says she goes there to freeze herself beside him before the Time God steps in. It says the closing caption reads, roughly, that the tribulation of love is over and heaven and earth will not part them again.

The debate. Some commentators call it the most satisfying finale of the year and the last word on the leads. Others, including Tonbori Day, call it messy, rushed and hard to follow, and one NetEase critic says the cost to the supporting cast undercuts the happy ending. Chasing Dramas gave the drama 6.6 out of 10 and called the finale confusing.

Identity Reveals

Ending spoilerShow identity reveals

The central secret is half in the synopsis: Li Qingyue and Hua Ruyue look identical, and iQ.com's blurb even calls Li Qingyue the Goddess of Siling.

Minor spoilerReveal the rest of the backstory

Chinese recaps say Hua Ruyue's spirit is living in Li Qingyue's body, and a Taiwanese report says this comes out around episode 8, after an incident with the Heaven-Revealing Seal (翻天印). Chinese recaps add that Hua Ruyue and Bai Jiusi once had a son, Shi'an (十安), who died young, and that her grief and her belief that Bai Jiusi abandoned her is the root of the feud. They also say Bai Jiusi had sealed her powers and sent her to the mortal world. Some Chinese commentators argue about whether the scenes with Shi'an were real or an illusion, and we haven't found a clear answer.

Words and customs you'll hear

The title

Lin Jiang Xian (临江仙) is the name of a classical ci (词) poetry tune, one of the best-known tune patterns, so it appears as a title on many Song and later poems. A Chinese reference entry says it began as a Tang-dynasty court-entertainment tune and was linked to a water goddess, though accounts differ. Yang Shen's poem beginning "Gun gun Chang Jiang dong shi shui" (滚滚长江东逝水) is a famous example. We haven't found the production explaining why it chose the name. The working title was Heng Men You Hu (衡门有狐).

Xianxia and the Nine Heavens

Feud is a xianxia drama, set among gods and immortals rather than among mortal cultivators climbing toward immortality. China Daily says the designers drew on the Shan Hai Jing (山海经), including Mount Buzhou and the thunder bird, for the heavenly realm. The Chinese press release described a "tribulation of love" (情劫) as the plot's frame, a common xianxia idea that immortals must pass a test of the heart before they can rise further. See our cultivation entry for the wider background.

Feud FAQ

What is Feud about?

Feud is a 2025 Chinese xianxia romance on iQIYI. Li Qingyue, a low-ranking sect disciple, is found by the heavenly lord Bai Jiusi, who sees she looks just like his former wife, the goddess Hua Ruyue. He takes her to the heavens and marries her while he keeps testing who she really is.

How many episodes does Feud have?

Feud has 32 episodes of about 45 minutes. iQ.com, iQIYI's Chinese page and Wikipedia all say 32, and all of them have already aired. Pre-release articles said 40 and Sportskeeda said 34, but those figures didn't hold. It is a single season, and the story is told in full by the finale.

When was Feud released?

Feud premiered on iQIYI on June 6, 2025. VIP members got six episodes at noon on day one, then two a day, while free viewers got one a day. Wikipedia lists June 22, 2025 as the last date. Other sources give slightly different finale dates, so we can't say for certain which is right.

Where can I watch Feud?

In China it streams on iQIYI. From the US on October 25, 2026, Viki had all 32 episodes with English subtitles, the first 8 free with ads and the rest with Viki Pass. iQ.com also had all 32, with episodes 1 to 5 free and the rest for VIP members.

Is Feud on Netflix?

In some places. Taiwanese outlets list it among the Chinese dramas on Netflix there, and China Daily says the drama was released on Netflix and Viki overseas. Netflix has a title page for it, but we couldn't confirm the US, UK, Canada or Australia. In the US, Viki and iQ.com both carry it.

Who is in the cast of Feud?

Bai Lu plays Li Qingyue and Hua Ruyue, and Zeng Shunxi plays Bai Jiusi. He Ruixian plays Fan Ling'er and Chen Xinhai plays Zhang Suan. Zhao Yiqin, Zhou Jieqiong, Liang Yongqi, Zhao Zhaoyi and Hong Yao are also in the cast, and several more actors are listed on Wikipedia.

Is Feud based on a novel?

We haven't found one. Chinese reports from the wrap of filming called it an original story, and Wikipedia and English preview articles list no source novel. So we treat it as an original drama, though we can't rule out a book we missed.

Is Lin Jiang Xian the same drama as Feud?

Yes. Lin Jiang Xian (临江仙) is the pinyin of the Chinese title, and Feud is the English name used by iQ.com and Wikipedia. Wikipedia also lists Lament of the River Immortal as another title. During production it was called Heng Men You Hu (衡门有狐). All of them point to the same 32-episode iQIYI series.

Is there a Feud season 2?

No season 2 has been announced. Feud's 32 episodes end the story, and we found no statement from iQIYI or the production company about a continuation. English recaps mention fans asking for one to clear up the finale, but that is fan demand rather than a confirmed project.

Are Li Qingyue and Hua Ruyue the same person in Feud?

SpoilerShow the answer
Minor spoilerReveal the connection between them

Yes, according to Chinese recaps. Hua Ruyue's spirit lives in Li Qingyue's body, which is why the two look identical. A Taiwanese report places the reveal around episode 8. iQ.com's synopsis already calls Li Qingyue the Goddess of Siling, so the show doesn't treat it as a late twist.

Does Feud have a happy ending?

SpoilerShow the answer
Minor spoilerReveal whether it ends happily

Yes, according to recaps. Hua Ruyue and Bai Jiusi end up together after a sacrifice and a trip back in time, and she wakes him with a kiss. Viewers were split, and some found the finale rushed or hard to follow. We haven't watched it, and the recaps disagree on details.

Does Bai Jiusi die in Feud?

SpoilerShow the answer
Ending spoilerReveal Bai Jiusi's fate

Reportedly he sacrifices himself in the finale so Hua Ruyue can get free, then is woken by the Time God and a kiss. The recaps describe the sacrifice differently, as a self-destruct, a vanishing or a fight with the villain. We haven't watched it, so treat the details as unconfirmed.
