Chinese Dramas With Happy Endings

Sad endings are common enough in Chinese drama that many viewers check before they start. This list is the short answer: 19 dramas from our catalog in which the main couple ends up together. They run from the safest choices, light modern romances with no real tragedy, to period and fantasy epics where the happy ending comes after deaths, separations or a divisive finale, and each blurb says which kind it is. The list tells you that each story ends happily for its leads. It doesn't say how, so you can read it without spoiling the plot. If you want the details, each drama's ending page has them behind a spoiler warning. We haven't watched all of these, and we say so in the blurbs that lean on recaps. If you're new to the terms, our guide to Chinese drama endings explains HE, BE and the rest.

1. Go Go Squid!

亲爱的,热爱的 · 2019 · 41 episodes
VikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYI

Bright, sugary and the safest happy ending here

If you want a happy ending with no asterisks, start here. Go Go Squid! follows Tong Nian, a bubbly computer science student, as she wins over Han Shangyan, the gruff boss of a cybersecurity competition team who has no time for romance. There are breakups and a disapproving mother along the way, but the drama never turns cruel, and the finale ties up both the romance and the team's story. Yang Zi and Li Xian have easy chemistry, and the team supplies most of the comedy. At 41 episodes it is long for a modern romance, but it moves quickly.

2. A Love So Beautiful

致我们单纯的小美好 · 2017 · 23 episodes
VikiiQIYIVikiNetflixVikiNetflixVikiNetflix

Short, nostalgic and engaged by the last episode

A Love So Beautiful is the shortest pick on this list and one of the safest. Chen Xiaoxi, cheerful and terrible at exams, has openly loved Jiang Chen, the cool top student next door, for as long as she can remember, and the drama follows them from high school to university and then three years past a breakup. The time apart is the only real heartache. The leads end up together, and the friends around them get happy endings too, with the second lead the one exception. At 23 episodes, it is an easy weekend watch and a classic of the school romance genre.

3. Hidden Love

偷偷藏不住 · 2023 · 25 episodes
YoukuYouTubeNetflixYoukuNetflixYoukuNetflixYouku

A slow crush that ends in a proposal

Hidden Love is the drama many international viewers mean when they ask for a sweet Chinese romance with a happy ending. Sang Zhi has a crush on her older brother's college roommate, Duan Jiaxu, from the age of 13, and the story follows her until she is grown up and the feelings are mutual. The ending is happy but quiet rather than giddy, because a family loss comes shortly before it. The drama stops at an engagement; the novel's epilogue goes further. At 25 episodes, it is short and low on angst between the leads.

4. Dazzling

耀眼 · 2026 · 30 episodes
VikiMango TVVikiMango TVVikiMango TVVikiMango TV

A small-town youth romance with a reunion finale

Dazzling is a 2026 youth romance set in a seaside fishing town. Qing Ye, a rich girl from Beijing whose father is under investigation, is sent to live above her aunt's barbershop and keeps clashing with Xing Wu, a local troublemaker working to keep his family afloat. The story follows them through high school and a time jump. Chinese finale coverage calls it a happy ending for the whole cast, and the leads end up together after years apart. We haven't watched it, and the recaps describe a hopeful future rather than a wedding.

5. Never-Ending Summer

炽夏 · 2026 · 29 episodes
iQIYIMango TVVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYI

First love, a ten-year gap and a double proposal

Never-Ending Summer is a 2026 romance with a ten-year time jump. Zhou Wan, a top student who needs money for her grandmother's care, first approaches Lu Xixiao, the rebellious stepson of her estranged mother, for calculated reasons. It turns into a first love, then misunderstandings split them up, and they meet again at work a decade later. Chinese recaps say the finale clears up the misunderstandings and ends in proposals, and none of them describes a main character dying. The last scene is a fourth-wall joke that some viewers loved and others found jarring. We haven't watched it.

6. Go Ahead

以家人之名 · 2020 · 46 episodes
Prime VideoiQIYIiQIYIiQIYIiQIYI

A found-family drama that ends with a family portrait

Go Ahead is the pick for viewers whose idea of a happy ending is a family put back together, not only a couple. Two single fathers raise a girl, Li Jianjian, and two boys as one household above a noodle shop. The boys leave after high school and come back years later as adults, with old wounds still open. The romance is real but sits beside parents and grown children learning to forgive each other. Expect tears on the way, and know that some viewers felt the final reconciliations came too quickly. It runs 46 episodes.

7. Irreplaceable

无可替代 · 2026 · 20 episodes
YoukuNetflixNetflixYoukuNetflixYoukuNetflixYouku

A sharp office drama with a reunion in the last episode

Irreplaceable is the shortest modern drama here, at 20 episodes, and the most focused on work. Xu Chi, a graduate from an ordinary college, fights her way into elite management consulting with advice from Ye Xinzhi, a partner at a rival firm who is quietly planning revenge on his old mentor. The leads separate near the end, which is the part to brace for, and find each other again in the final episode. Two supporting couples also end up together. Some Chinese viewers felt the reunion came too fast.

8. The Early Spring

早春晴朗 · 2026 · 24 episodes
YoukuNetflixNetflixYoukuNetflixYoukuNetflixYouku

An adult workplace romance that ends in an engagement

The Early Spring is the grown-up pick. Shang Zhitao, a young woman from Harbin, joins a Beijing ad agency and starts a secret six-year relationship with Luan Nian, its brilliant and sharp-tongued star director. The leads have a painful breakup late in the story and then reconcile on her terms, and the final episode ends in an engagement. It is happy for the couple and bittersweet around them: a close friend dies earlier in the drama, and that loss changes everyone. Expect real friction and a cold male lead for long stretches.

9. The Story of Ming Lan

知否知否应是绿肥红瘦 · 2018 · 73 episodes
VikiWeTVVikiWeTVVikiWeTVVikiWeTV

A patient heroine and a family at peace at the end

The Story of Ming Lan is the long, slow, deeply satisfying option. Sheng Minglan, an overlooked concubine's daughter in a Song dynasty official's household, learns to hide her wits until patience pays, and then marries Gu Tingye, a notorious marquis. Their marriage grows on screen, which is rare. The last episodes are tense, with poison, an attack and a palace coup, but the drama closes on a happy family. At 73 episodes in the international version it is a big commitment. In the US it was free with ads on Viki when we checked.

10. Love Like the Galaxy

星汉灿烂 · 2022 · 56 episodes
VikiWeTVVikiWeTVVikiWeTVVikiWeTV

A long historical romance that reunites its leads

Love Like the Galaxy comes from the same novelist as The Story of Ming Lan and shares its love of big families and domestic detail. Cheng Shaoshang, a sharp, self-taught girl left behind by her parents, falls for Ling Buyi, the Emperor's cold foster son, who is hiding a grudge. His secret drives them apart for years before they reconcile with both families' blessing. The drama ends before any wedding scene, which frustrated some viewers; the novel goes much further. It runs 56 episodes.

11. Story of Kunning Palace

宁安如梦 · 2023 · 38 episodes
iQIYIiQIYIiQIYIiQIYI

A rebirth romance with a married-with-kids epilogue

Story of Kunning Palace is darker and more scheming than most picks here, with a clearly happy ending for its leads. Jiang Xuening, a former empress who died after a coup, wakes up eighteen again and tries to stay away from the palace and from Xie Wei, the man who led that coup, who is about to become her teacher. The final battle is tense, but the epilogue shows the couple married with children. Fans of one supporting character tend to find his ending bittersweet, and the novel ends differently. It runs 38 episodes.

12. Destined

长风渡 · 2023 · 40 episodes
iQIYIiQIYIiQIYIiQIYI

A marriage-first romance that ends well for the couple

Destined starts with a mistaken marriage between Liu Yuru, a cloth merchant's daughter, and Gu Jiusi, a carefree heir with a playboy reputation, then grows into a story about business and court politics. Recaps say the couple stay together and help build a prosperous era, and the villain's long plot collapses. Not everyone around them is so lucky, and a few side couples end sadly. We haven't watched it, and most of the finale detail we have comes from one recap, so treat the specifics with care. It runs 40 episodes.

13. Pursuit of Jade

逐玉 · 2026 · 40 episodes
iQIYIWeTVNetflixNetflixNetflix

A fake marriage turned real, after a bloody final arc

Pursuit of Jade begins as a small-town romance: Fan Changyu, a butcher's daughter, takes in a wounded stranger and offers him a marriage on paper so she can keep her family's house. He is really the empire's most feared general. The story grows into a war and court epic, and the leads end it married for real and back home with the neighbors who raised her. The last two episodes are bloody, though, and several major characters die. Pick it if you want an equal couple and a heroine who fights.

14. Spring of the Blade

一瓯春 · 2026 · 30 episodes
iQIYIiQIYIiQIYIiQIYI

A dark revenge story that ends by the sea

Spring of the Blade is the darkest road to a happy ending on this list. Xie Qingyuan stages a haunting so a powerful family takes her in as a long-lost daughter, and she can find out who destroyed her mother. Shen Run, an imperial envoy with his own buried past, is investigating the same family. They marry, bring down the men who ruined both their families, clear both parents' names and end the drama together by the sea. Several members of the household die in a violent finale, so expect a revenge thriller first and a romance second. It runs 30 episodes.

15. Glory

玉茗茶骨 · 2025 · 36 episodes
VikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYI

Tea-trade scheming and a happy, wedding-free finish

Glory is a costume drama about a tea dynasty. Rong Shanbao, who runs her family's tea business, rescues Lu Jianglai, a young magistrate who has lost his memory, and puts him to work as a stable hand. Her sisters and a line of suitors fight for the household around them. Chinese recaps say the leads leave the capital together and she becomes the new tea king. No wedding is shown, which many viewers regretted, and the recaps differ on smaller details. We haven't watched it. It runs 36 episodes.

16. Love Between Fairy and Devil

苍兰诀 · 2022 · 36 episodes
iQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIViki

A short xianxia romance that ends with the leads together

Love Between Fairy and Devil is the friendliest fantasy pick for newcomers who want a happy ending. Orchid, a weak but cheerful orchid spirit, is bound by a curse to Dongfang Qingcang, the feared demon lord she accidentally set free, so that each feels what the other feels. The first half is mostly comedy. The second half is heavy, and both leads go through a great deal before the story lets them be together. Two specials show their life afterwards. At 36 episodes it is short for the genre, and in the US it was free with ads on both iQIYI and Viki when we checked.

17. Eternal Love

三生三世十里桃花 · 2017 · 58 episodes
VikiNetflixVikiNetflixVikiNetflixVikiNetflix

The classic xianxia epic, with a reunion at the end

Eternal Love is the drama that set the template for xianxia romance in 2017. Bai Qian, a fox goddess, and Ye Hua, the Crown Prince of Heaven, love each other across three lives. Expect a lot of tragedy before the ending, including a death and a long separation, but the final episode reunites the main couple, who end up together with their son. A second couple is left without a resolution, which their fans still mention. It is earnest, grand and 58 episodes long, and in the US it was free with ads on Viki when we checked.

18. Ashes of Love

香蜜沉沉烬如霜 · 2018 · 63 episodes
VikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYIVikiiQIYI

A happy ending for the couple, a lonely one for the rival

Ashes of Love has a happy ending for its main couple and one of the most argued-about second leads in the genre. Jinmi, a grape spirit who was given a pill at birth that stops her from feeling love, falls for Xufeng, the Fire Deity, while his quiet older brother wants her too. The funny first half gives way to deaths on both sides and a war, before Jinmi and Xufeng finally get a quiet life together. Many viewers call it bittersweet because the rival ends up alone. It runs 63 episodes.

19. Feud

临江仙 · 2025 · 32 episodes
VikiiQIYINetflixVikiNetflixVikiNetflixViki

A love-hate xianxia romance with a divisive finale

Feud is the most divisive ending on this list. Bai Lu plays a low-ranking disciple who ends up married to Bai Jiusi, a heavenly lord who suspects she is his former wife in disguise, and the drama is full of reversals. Recaps agree that the leads end up together after a sacrifice and a trip back in time, but they disagree on how it works, and viewers split on whether the finale was satisfying or rushed. We haven't watched it. Choose it for the love-hate couple more than for a tidy ending. It runs 32 episodes.

How we picked

We included every drama in our catalog whose ending we mark as happy (HE) and not disputed. That means the main couple ends up together and alive, and the sources we used agree on it. Most of those ending notes come from official synopses, episode recaps and Chinese coverage rather than our own viewing, and each ending page says which. We left out three dramas that look happy but where the sources disagree: Affinity, Derailment and Mobius. Bittersweet endings, where the couple gets a happy moment after a big loss or only the epilogue makes it happy, are not on this list. The order runs from the lightest, lowest-angst endings to the most hard-won. As we add dramas and confirm more endings, this list will grow.

Questions

What is the best Chinese drama with a happy ending for beginners?

From this list, Go Go Squid! and A Love So Beautiful are the safest starts: modern, light, and free of real tragedy between the leads. For fantasy, Love Between Fairy and Devil is short for the genre and ends with its couple together. Hidden Love is the best-known modern pick internationally.

Which of these have no sad deaths at all?

None of the 19 is guaranteed to be free of loss, because we haven't watched them all. Go Go Squid!, A Love So Beautiful, Dazzling and Never-Ending Summer come closest from what the recaps describe. Hidden Love and The Early Spring each have a death before the happy finale, and the period and fantasy picks lower on the list have several.

Where can I watch these free?

When we checked from the US on October 25, 2026, Go Go Squid!, A Love So Beautiful, The Story of Ming Lan, Love Like the Galaxy, Eternal Love, Ashes of Love and Glory were free with ads on Viki, and Love Between Fairy and Devil was free with ads on both Viki and iQIYI. Most of the others offer a few free episodes first. Our Viki vs iQIYI comparison explains the difference, and each drama's page shows where it streams in your country.

Are there Chinese dramas with sad endings instead?

Yes, plenty. Our endings page sorts every drama we track by ending type, so you can find the sad, open and bittersweet ones as well as the happy ones.
