What to Expect
We haven't watched this one through yet. This section is based on the published episode synopses and the production's own descriptions, and we'll replace it with a verdict once we've seen it.
The setup moves fast. By the end of episode 2, Yu Meng has used a perfume trick to identify one of the women in her husband's life, turned her into a wary ally, and realized that the photo in the bouquet points to someone else entirely. From there the drama runs on two tracks: a hunt for who is really in Di Liren's life, and a fight over Jiali's money, where Yu Meng has to learn the business she let her husband run.
Expect a revenge drama with suspense more than a romance. Chinese coverage files it as an urban emotional suspense drama, and Sina compared it to a game of Werewolf played inside a marriage. Yu Meng spends much of the series acting the spoiled wife while she plans her next move, and the bluffing goes both ways. Her bond with Jiao Xu grows slowly in the background.
A content note: the drama deals with emotional abuse inside a marriage, and later episodes include serious violence.
The Story
Yu Meng has the life her followers envy. She is the heiress to Jiali, an e-commerce company her father built with two partners, she runs a popular livestream channel, and on their fifth wedding anniversary her husband Di Liren flies her over the city in a helicopter and proposes all over again. That night she finds a photo tucked into his bouquet card that shows him with his arm around another woman. The Vanishing Beauty (美人余) follows what Yu Meng does next. Instead of confronting him, she keeps smiling at home and starts investigating, with her best friend Liu Zi, Liu Zi's detective-novel-loving brother Liu Bai, and Jiao Xu, a divorce lawyer who spots her as a likely client. What she uncovers is bigger than an affair. Her husband has been running the family business since their wedding, and money has been moving where she can't see it. Li Yitong leads the 28-episode Tencent Video drama, with Wang Jiajia, Chang Huasen, and Zeng Mengxue. It is adapted from a novel by Yi Bei and streams on WeTV outside China.
Release Notes
The Vanishing Beauty premiered on Tencent Video on October 9, 2026, at 18:00 Beijing time, as a streaming exclusive, and Dragon TV began airing it nightly at 19:30 from October 10. VIP members got three episodes on the first day, then two a day, with SVIP members one episode ahead. The pace slowed to one episode a day by October 19, and no new episodes came out on October 21–23. On October 20 a paid preview pack unlocked everything through the finale. From October 24, members got one episode a day again, and the last of the 28 episodes came out on October 28, as the official release calendar had set. WeTV carries the drama internationally under its English title; when we checked from the US on October 25, 2026, it listed all 28 episodes with English subtitles, and by October 29 the early-access labels were gone: episodes 1 to 4 are free and the rest need VIP.
The series was produced by Tencent, co-produced by Shanghai Oriental Entertainment Media Group, and made by Beijing Haohan Xingguang (浩瀚星光). Wang Ying and Wu Huihui directed, with Zhang Jia as head writer. The production announced its cast on September 30, 2025, and released a wrap featurette on January 12, 2026. The theme song is Jue Se (绝色), sung by Jane Zhang. Baidu Baike lists three ending songs, and Li Yitong sings one of them, Liu Zai Yuan Di De Ren (留在原地的人).

The divorce. A fire at Yu Meng's villa, set by a gardener at Di Liren's prompting, nearly kills her and leaves Harry badly burned when he runs in to save her. Yu Meng stops waiting. She divorces Di Liren, sells him all her shares in Jiali, and starts a new company, Yueji (悦己, roughly "pleasing yourself"), with Kang Long and his research team. On the same day the divorce goes through, Lu Hui remarries Di Liren, and Yu Meng guesses at once that it isn't a reconciliation.
The old crime. Lu Hui, Yu Meng, Jiao Xu and Di's former assistant Zhang Tao corner Peng Cheng, a gambler who knows Di's past. Years earlier in Xiao City, Di had taken money from the factory Lu Hui's father ran. To get back the IOU he had signed, Di and Peng Cheng stopped the father's car on a road with no cameras; the car overturned and he was killed. Peng Cheng also staged the car accident through which Di first "met" Yu Meng.
The last confrontation. In the final episode Lu Hui hides a copy of the evidence under Harry's hospital bed, takes Di back to Xiao City and confronts him. He grabs her by the throat at the balcony, then breaks down and begs. When he tries to run, she holds him off with a knife, and she lowers it only when Yu Meng and Harry arrive and she hears her son's voice. A court sentences Di Liren to 18 years in prison and a fine of 500,000 yuan.
Everyone else. Jiao Xu tells Yu Meng he wants to be more than her lawyer. She doesn't turn him down, but she won't rush into anything again, and he accepts that. She opens a second company and puts Liu Bai in charge of it. Kang Long, the father of Liu Zi's daughter, finally says out loud what he feels, and the production's finale-night post says it is returned. Weng Yue, now chair of her family's company, comes to congratulate her, and Wen Xiaoxiao returns from studying abroad to apologize. Yu Meng's father wakes from his coma in episode 27, but his memory stops at age 25.
The last scene. Some years later, Di Liren fakes an illness to get out on medical parole. The person who comes to collect him is Lu Hui. They never divorced, she is now his legal guardian, and he is frightened of what comes next. The drama closes on Yu Meng, who has gone from pampered heiress to trophy wife to a woman standing on her own, hoping her story helps other women do the same.

The novel behind it
The drama adapts Mei Ren Yu (美人余) by Yi Bei (伊北), a novel serialized on the Chinese reading platform Douban Read (豆瓣阅读) from April 2019. According to Baidu Baike, it was runner-up in the women's fiction category of Douban Read's first long-fiction contest that year, and Chongqing Publishing House (重庆出版社) published it in print in 2024. Yi Bei also wrote the novels behind the family dramas Xiao Min Jia (小敏家) and Liu Zi Mei (六姊妹). As far as we know, there is no official English translation.
Differences from the Novel

Baidu Baike's entry for the book describes a story about four Yu sisters: Yu Jia (余嘉), who refuses to leave a cold, unfaithful husband; Yu Meng, who is determined to divorce; Yu Shuang (余爽), who doesn't want marriage and ends up raising her niece; and Yu Rui (余蕊), who wants to break into show business and turns to marriage instead. The drama keeps Yu Meng and builds the whole series around her; none of the other sisters appear in its cast list. The same entry links a character called Liren with Yu Jia, not Yu Meng. We haven't read the novel, so we can't say how much of the drama's plot comes from it.

Chi juehu: eating up a family with no heir
The official synopsis says Yu Meng's husband nearly managed to chi juehu (吃绝户), literally "eat up the family that has died out." The phrase once described relatives and neighbors seizing the property of a household with no son to inherit it. Today it's harsh slang for a man who marries a wealthy family's daughter in order to take over everything the family owns.
A son-in-law who marries in
Chinese coverage calls Di Liren a zhuixu (赘婿), a man who marries into his wife's family instead of bringing her into his. It has long carried a stigma, and that resentment is part of the drama's picture of him. The first episode's synopsis also calls him a fenghuang nan (凤凰男), a "phoenix man": someone from a poor background who rises through study or marriage, a label often used with suspicion.
A marriage played like Werewolf
Werewolf (狼人杀) is a party game hugely popular in China, in which players hide their roles and try to bluff each other out. Sina used it to describe this drama, and it fits: almost every character at Yu Meng's table is playing a part, and the fun is watching who slips first.
The title
美人余 reads roughly as "the Yu beauty," joining meiren (美人, a beautiful woman) to the family name Yu. In the novel the name covers four sisters; the drama puts it on Yu Meng alone.
