What to expect. A costume romance in which a magistrate who has lost his memory becomes a stable hand in the household of the tea heiress who saved him.

Final verdict coming soon. It goes up once our editor has seen the ending. How we rate

Best for

Fans of Hou Minghao, female-led household intrigue and tea-trade scheming, who can forgive loose plot logic

The story, without spoilers

What to Expect

We haven't watched this one. This section is based on the Mango TV, Viki and iQ.com listings, an English review, and Chinese and Taiwanese coverage, and we'll replace it with a verdict once we have one.

It is a female-led household drama in a tea-merchant clan. Rong Shanbao runs the family and decides who gets to marry in, and Lu Jianglai starts at the bottom of her household with no memory of his past. Taiwanese coverage describes a blend of power and business plays, mystery, a woman-led family and rivalry among male suitors, while Marie Claire Taiwan praises the sisters competing with one another rather than over a man. Chasing Dramas notes the costumes and cast but says the villains are shallow in places and the romance is underdeveloped early on.

Reception was mixed but generally warm. Chasing Dramas scored the first 12 episodes 6.5 out of 10 and the full drama 7, saying the last two-thirds were much stronger. A TVBS article cites a Douban score of 6.8, but gives no date for it. Common complaints are that the plot logic does not hold up to close scrutiny, that the suitor casting drew mockery, and that some viewers see it copying the format of The Double (墨雨云间). The soundtrack reuses remade internet-famous songs, which Chasing Dramas found cheap. A content note: the drama includes violence and some sexually suggestive scenes.

The Story

Lu Jianglai is a young top scholar sent to run Chunan County as magistrate. After a dangerous old case catches up with him, he is badly injured, loses his memory and is rescued by Rong Shanbao, the eldest granddaughter and head of a wealthy tea family in Linji (临霁). She takes him home as a stable hand, and the synopses say it is partly to settle an old score. Meanwhile her sisters and a line of suitors fight for control of the household and its tea business. Glory (玉茗茶骨, Yu Ming Cha Gu) is a 36-episode costume drama from 2025 starring Hou Minghao and Gulnazar, produced by Yu Zheng (于正). It premiered on Mango TV and Hunan TV on December 29, 2025, and finished in January 2026.

Release Notes

Glory premiered on Mango TV (芒果TV) and Hunan TV (湖南卫视) on December 29, 2025. HK01 reports that Mango TV members could watch from 12:00 on day one, with SVIP members getting one episode a day ahead, and that Hunan TV carried it from 20:00 in its Golden Eagle exclusive slot. The MyDramaList listing gives January 15, 2026 as the end date, and the finale recaps are dated that day. It runs 36 episodes of about 45 minutes. A fan blog and one Chinese analysis article said 40 episodes before and during the run, but the platforms' own pages all say 36.

The drama was produced by Huanyu Film (欢娱影视) with Mango TV, with Yu Zheng as chief producer. Chinese Wikipedia credits Guo Hao (国浩), Zhang Zhiwei (张之微) and Ma Shige (马诗歌) as directors and Zhou Mo (周末) and Ren Yanan (任亚南) as writers, and says filming began on March 13, 2025. HK01 also names the two writers. Chinese Wikipedia calls it an original story, and we haven't found a source novel.

World Journal reported that first-day plays topped 10 million on one data firm's count against about 5.36 million on another's, a gap that sparked debate. TVBS cites more than 4 billion plays without naming the count, so treat that as unverified.

Internationally, Viki, iQ.com and MGTV each have an English-titled page, and Apple TV also lists it under the studio name Mango TV. MGTV also lists a separate "Glory · Short Drama Version", which we didn't check. From the US on October 25, 2026, Viki had all 36 episodes free with ads, iQ.com had episodes 1 to 3 free, and MGTV's page title said episodes 1 and 2 were free.

In Brief

Ending spoilerShow the ending in brief

Glory has a happy ending, as Chinese recaps describe it. The leads leave the capital together for Linji, and Rong Shanbao is named the new tea king. No wedding is shown, which many viewers regretted. The recaps agree on the broad shape but differ on several details.

Full Ending Explained

Full spoilersShow the full ending

This account comes from finale recaps on Tencent News, NetEase, Sina Finance and Zhihu, not from watching. They describe the same broad shape but differ in places, and we say so where they do.

Lu Jianglai's origin. The recaps say Lu Jianglai is revealed to be the son of the Duke of Yong (永国公, Xue Maotang), born to a maid of the duke's first wife. He is therefore a half-brother of the duke's heir, Xue Shuyu (薛树玉, which one recap writes as 薛玉树). Chinese Wikipedia and several synopses say he came to Linji on the trail of an old case before he lost his memory, but the sources describe that case differently, as a wife murder or as a family massacre.

The heir's death. NetEase recaps say the heir is found dead the morning after drinking with Lu Jianglai, who is then accused of poisoning him. The duke blocks an autopsy until Rong Shanbao arrives with the founding emperor's imperial seal (高祖御印). One of her sisters, Rong Yunshu, reportedly tells by smell that two things killed him. A concubine, Jiping (寄萍), had laced his charcoal, and his sister Xue Yingchuan (薛映川) then used a tonic that reacted with it. A separate NetEase piece says the heir had grown cruel after breaking his leg.

Lu Jianglai's choice. The duke wants Lu Jianglai to inherit the title. Tencent News and NetEase say he angrily refuses, hands the title to his nephew and leaves the ducal household. Rong Shanbao leaves a fast horse behind: if he wants to follow her he can catch up, and if he chooses power they part. Another recap says he states that he recognizes only his adoptive father, a servant who raised him and paid for his schooling. The recaps agree he rides after her and goes back to Linji with her.

The duke's household. The recaps disagree about the duke. One says his wife bit off part of his ear and he ends up sidelined, another says he suffers a stroke. They agree that the heir's wife, Xie Huiqing (谢惠卿), takes real control, and that Rong Shanbao suspects her of being the mastermind and leaves it unspoken. NetEase says Xue Yingchuan is sent to a family temple.

The impostor. NetEase says the suitor Yan Bailou is a fake sent by a rival family, with a real Yan Bailou existing elsewhere. Chinese Wikipedia names the impostor Wei Yao (卫珧), while one recap writes Wei Zhao (卫兆). One recap says he is exposed on the wedding day by witnesses Rong Shanbao brought from Shu, another says Lu Jianglai exposes him, and one says he ends up in prison.

Rong Shanbao and her sisters. The recaps say Rong Shanbao wins the tea-king title through hard-won skill, breaking the idea that only blood counts, and reportedly exposes her father's collusion with an enemy and takes full charge of the family. The sisters mostly find settled lives. Rong Yunshu is said to pledge herself to Bai Yingsheng, who passes the imperial exams and is posted to Linji. Rong Yunxi is said to reunite with An Cha (安茶), and Shen Xiangling is entered into the Rong family register.

The debate. Tencent News and Sina Finance call it one of the most satisfying endings of the year. Others point out that no wedding is shown, and Beauty321 says the investigation of the duke's household has logic gaps. One NetEase piece says Yu Zheng has talked about a second part with the same team in which the couple finally marries. We found no second source and no official announcement.

Identity Reveals

Ending spoilerShow identity reveals

The setup is in the synopsis: Lu Jianglai is an official who has lost his memory and is working as a servant.

Minor spoilerReveal the rest of the backstory

Chinese recaps say Lu Jianglai is the Duke of Yong's son by a maid, and that his adoptive father was a servant. They also say the suitor Yan Bailou is an impostor from a rival family who is exposed in the finale. An episode guide on tvzn says a jade thumb ring Shanbao returns to him in episode 6 brings back part of his memory. We don't know when the full reveal comes.

Words and customs you'll hear

The title

Yu Ming Cha Gu (玉茗茶骨) has no official English translation beyond Glory. Ming (茗) is a literary word for tea, and cha gu (茶骨) is literally "tea bone". Chinese recaps use the phrase "born with tea bones" (天生茶骨) for a character with a natural gift for tea. We haven't found the production explaining the title. During production it was known as Ming Men Shi Jia (茗门世家), "the tea family".

The Rong sisters and the household

The Rong daughters are addressed as xiaojie, young ladies of the house. The drama's household turns the usual arrangement around. The eldest granddaughter runs the family and its tea trade, and suitors move into her household to compete for her hand. Taiwanese coverage ties this to the idea of a woman-led clan (女尊), and Marie Claire Taiwan says the tea family is said to descend from a "Kingdom of Women" (女儿国), though it doesn't say whether the show explains this.

Top scholar and county magistrate

Lu Jianglai is introduced as a zhuangyuan (状元), the top scorer in the imperial examination, who is then posted to run a county. A county magistrate was the county's judge, tax collector and chief administrator at once.

Glory FAQ

What is Glory about?

Glory (玉茗茶骨) is a 2025 Chinese costume drama. Lu Jianglai, a young top scholar and county magistrate, loses his memory after an attack tied to an old case. Rong Shanbao, head of a rich tea family, rescues him and keeps him as a stable hand while her sisters and suitors scramble for the household.

Is this the same as The Glory or Glory in Shadows?

No. Hou Minghao's Glory is 玉茗茶骨 on Mango TV. The Glory (雁回时, also 贵女) is a separate 30-episode Tencent drama from March 2025, with Chen Duling and Xin Yunlai. Glory in Shadows (荣华令) is a 24-episode Tencent QQ web drama from 2026. Chasing Dramas warns the names are easy to mix up.

Who is in the cast of Glory?

Hou Minghao plays Lu Jianglai and Gulnazar (Gülnezer Bextiyar) plays Rong Shanbao. Chen Ruoxuan plays Bai Yingsheng and Cheng Xiao plays Rong Yunxi. Zhao Yiqin, Zhang Nan, Zhao Jiamin, Yu Yin, Zhao Zhaoyi and Liu Xuehua are also in the cast, according to Chinese Wikipedia and the iQ.com listing.

Is Glory a 2025 or 2026 drama?

Both, depending on how you count. It premiered on December 29, 2025, and the MyDramaList listing gives January 15, 2026 as the finale date. Viki, iQ.com and Apple TV label it 2025, while Chasing Dramas calls it 2025/2026. Searches for the 2025 cast and the 2026 cast lead to the same people.

How many episodes does Glory have?

Glory has 36 episodes of about 45 minutes. Viki, iQ.com, Chinese Wikipedia and Chasing Dramas all say 36, and the series has finished airing. A fan blog and one Chinese analysis piece said 40, but that looks like a pre-release figure. It is one season, and the main story is told in full by the finale.

Where can I watch Glory?

It premiered on Mango TV and Hunan TV in China. Outside China, Viki, iQ.com and MGTV carry it with English subtitles, and Apple TV lists it. When we checked from the US on October 25, 2026, Viki had all 36 episodes free with ads. iQ.com had episodes 1 to 3 free and the rest for VIP members.

Is Glory based on a novel?

We found no novel. Chinese Wikipedia calls it an original costume romance, and none of the English or Chinese coverage we read names a source book. That is a single source, so we can't rule out a book we missed. The writers credited are Zhou Mo and Ren Yanan.

Is Glory worth watching?

Opinions are mixed but mostly positive. Chasing Dramas gave it 7 out of 10 and said the last two-thirds were much better than the first 12 episodes. Marie Claire Taiwan praised the sisters' rivalry. A TVBS article cites a Douban score of 6.8. Common complaints are loose plot logic and the suitor casting.

Does Glory have a happy ending?

SpoilerShow the answer
Minor spoilerReveal whether it ends happily

Yes, according to Chinese recaps. Lu Jianglai gives up his claim to a ducal title and goes back to Linji with Rong Shanbao, who becomes the new tea king. No wedding is shown, which many viewers regretted. We haven't watched it, and the recaps differ on smaller details.

Do Lu Jianglai and Rong Shanbao end up together?

SpoilerShow the answer
Minor spoilerReveal whether the leads end up together

Reportedly yes. Recaps say he refuses the Duke of Yong's title and rides after her, and they return to Linji together. The couple don't marry on screen. One NetEase piece says Yu Zheng talked about a second part with a wedding, but we found no second source for that.

Is there a Glory season 2?

No second season has been officially announced that we could find. One NetEase finale piece says Yu Zheng spoke of a second part with the same team, in which the couple would finally marry. We found no other report of this, so treat it as unconfirmed.
